Noah and Madalen

I am the mother of three children, two of which were born with a hearing deficit. Both children were diagnosed as infants and were aided by the time they were 4 months old. Noah, age 9 and Madalen, age 4 have adjusted well in this 'hearing' world. Thanks to the technology available related to hearing aids and the advancements being made everyday, they will continue to do so. We will soon be faced with the need to replace both sets of aids, total cost upwards of $7000. My husband and I both work full time and both carry health insurance, yet we will need to take out a loan to pay for these.  1999, the state of Wisconsin mandated all birthing hospitals to conduct newborn hearing screening, but made no revisions to accomodate those identified with needs as a result of these screenings. It is time for insurance to cover the cost of hearing aids and cochlear implants for one of our most precious assets, our children and our future.  ~Paula, LaCrosse
